Statement of Principles
This Statement of Principles clarifies the attitudes and approaches that will be encouraged in the ministries of Destiny Fellowship. Most of these are not traditional absolutes, but are Biblical and represent our understanding of how to most effectively accomplish our purpose.
A Commitment To Relevant Bible Exposition
We believe that the Bible is God's Inspired Word, the authoritative and trustworthy role of faith and practice for Christians. The Bible is both timeless and timely, relevant to the common needs of all people at all times and to the specific problems of contemporary living. Therefore, we are committed to equipping Christians, through the preaching, teaching and living out of God's Word, to follow Christ in every sphere of life.
A Commitment To Prayer
We believe that God desires His people to pray and that he hears and answers prayer (Matthew 7: 7-11, James 5: 13-18). Therefore, the ministries and activities of this body of believers will be characterized by a reliance on prayer in their conception, planning, and execution.
A Commitment To House To House Ministries
We believe that the primary responsibility of pastors and teachers in the local church is to "prepare God's people, His body, for works of service" (Ephesians 4: 12). So therefore, the ministry of Destiny Fellowship will be placed, as much as possible, in the hands of non-vocational workers (the entire body). This will be accomplished through training and releasing opportunities and through practices which encourage 'lay pers' interaction, leadership, responsibility, and authority in the various ministries of the church. We feel that House To House Ministries are one of the most effective means of building relationships, stimulating spiritual growth and developing leaders and leadership in the body.
A Commitment To Effective Ministry
In today's rapidly changing world, forms and methods must be continually evaluated, and if necessary, altered to fit new conditions. While proven techniques should not be discarded at every whim, we encourage creativity and innovation, (to pursue excellence), flexibility and adaptability. Our primary concern is to be "effective in ministry" (I Peter 1: 12-15), not adherence to tradition.
A Commitment To Excellence
We believe that the God of our salvation deserves the very best we have to offer. The Lord Himself, is a God of excellence as shown by the beauty of His hand in creation. Furthermore, He gave the BEST He had, "His Only Son, for us" (Romans 8: 32). Paul exhorts servants in whatever they do, to "work with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men". (Colossians 3: 23). Therefore, in the ministries and activities of Destiny Fellowship, we will ALL seek to maintain a
high standard of excellence
to bring glory to God. This will be achieved when
every person
is exercising his or her God-given spiritual gift to the best of their ability, walking in their destiny as God reveals (I Corinthians 12).
A Commitment To Our Vision
We desire to reach the lost around the world after we develop the local body and prepare for service. Although numerical growth is not necessarily a sign of God's blessing, and not a sufficient goal in itself, we believe that God desires for us to reach as many people as possible with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we will pursue God to give us direction and as He brings people into our body, we will facilitate numerical growth, and never compromise in any way, our integrity or our commitment to Biblical truth.
"...You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." I Peter 2: 9
