Why Do We Worship?

 

Why are musical instruments a part of worship?

  • "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the psaltery and harp. Praise Him with timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals; praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals." Psalm 150: 3-5

Why do we serve Communion?

  • "For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed, took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes." I Corinthians 11: 23-26

Why do we prophecy?

  • "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good....to another prophecy...." I Corinthians 12: 7, 10

  • "Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophecy...one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation." I Corinthians 14: 1, 3

Why does the whole church pray at the same time?

  • "And when they heard this, they lifted their voice to God with one accord and said, "O Lord, it is Thou who didst make the heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them... And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the Word of God with boldness." Acts 4: 24, 31

Why do we anoint with oil and pray for the sick?

  • "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him." James 5: 14-15

Why do we tithe?

  • "Honor the Lord from your wealth, and from the first of all your produce; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine. Proverbs 3: 9-10

  • "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this says the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing until there is no more need." Malachi 3: 10

Why do we use the Bible so much in our worship?

  • "Let the Word of God richly dwell within you with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your heart to the Lord..." colossians 3: 16

Why do we sing choruses as well as hymns?

  • "And do not get drunk with wine for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord..." Ephesians 5: 18-19

Why do we clap our hands?

  • "O clap your hands all peoples; shout to God with the voice of joy." Psalm 47: 1

Why do we lift our hands?

  • "So I will bless Thee as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Thy Name." Psalm 63: 4

  • "Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissention." I Timothy 2: 8

Why do we have audible praise unto God?

  • "Bless the Lord O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name." Psalm 103: 1

  • "I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalm 34: 1

Why do we sing in tongues and in English?

  • "I shall pray with the spirit and I shall pray with the mind also; I shall sing with the spirit and I shall sing with the mind also. " I Corinthians 14: 15

Why do we believe in tongues and interpretation of tongues?

  • "Therefore brethren desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbit to speak in tongues. But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner." I corinthians 14: 39-40

  • "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good...to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues." I corinthians 12: 7, 10
